Cable Testing Using RS232 Cable Tester
RS232 Cable Test using RS232 Cable Tester
Test 1
Unplug cable from machine
Plug cable tester into port on machine.
TD light on tester should light
RD light should be off (if both TD & RD lights come on there is a short on the machine).
Test 2
Remove tester from port on machine
Place it on the cable end that you removed from the machine
RD light on tester should light (if both RD & TD lights come on there is a short either in cable
or hub or computer)

Test 3
With tester still plugged into cable, plug tester & cable into machine
Both lights should turn on and they should be the same color (but they may be red or green)
Test 4
Punch a program out with tester plugged into machine and cable plugged into tester.
TD light should blink rapidly as program is sent. If no blinking, possibly a problem with the
Port on the machine.

Cable Troubleshooting
In PC DNC Editor
I/O menu
Select I/O device
Open Terminal Window
Unplug RS232 cable from the machine. At the end you just unplugged, have someone hold a paperclip to pins 2 & 3, being careful not to touch the paperclip to the sides of connector.
IN PC DNC Editor, type a character in Terminal window. You should see the character on the screen and also the same
character in a different color next to it if two way communication is established.
